Cancel one “massive blow” tariff for users. Paris town hall asks the president of Ile-de-France Mobility (IDFM), Valérie Pécresse, to reconsider the price increases for Ile-de-France transport planned for the summer of 2024, as part of the Paris 2024 Games, Wednesday December 6. The price of a single ticket, in particular, must almost double to reach 4 euros.

“Parisians and Ile-de-France residents (…) will be squeezed in this period of inflation where every euro counts”deplore the deputies for town planning and sport, Emmanuel Grégoire and Pierre Rabadan, in a letter written on Tuesday and sent to AFP.

Expected visitors will be “very predominantly French and especially Ile-de-France residents”insist the two deputies, relying on a study by the Paris Tourist Office according to which the inhabitants of the region will represent 43% of the approximately 14 million French visitors expected.

However, “not everyone who will make these Games a success is a Navigo pass holder”the monthly subscription for the Parisian transport network, “and will have no choice but to pay the high price”, protest the two deputies. Navigo monthly and annual packages “will not be affected by these increases”had specified Valérie Pécresse.

Recruitments “put in difficulty”

This increase in prices also risks complicating the recruitment of workers for the Games, warn Anne Hidalgo’s two deputies, in particular “precarious workers” and the volunteers, whose presence is “essential for the successful running of this event”.

Posing as defenders of Games “popular and open to all”the two socialist deputies ask the LR president of the region for a meeting to discuss “maintaining the usual pricing” And “free public transport for Parisian volunteers”.

In its application file, the Games organizing committee had initially promised to make transport free, but it had officially abandoned this idea during the 2022 budget review. Valérie Pécresse repeated on Friday that this special pricing represented “the right price”.
