Emmanuel Macron denounced a “cowardly and unworthy act”. An investigation into violations of the laws and customs of war has been opened by the Ukrainian authorities.

Two French humanitarian workers were killed and three others were injured by a Russian strike in Ukraine on Thursday February 1, announced thehe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Stéphane Séjourné, on his X account (ex-Twitter). “My thoughts are with them and their loved ones. France stands by them. Russia will have to answer for its crimes” he added. President Emmanuel Macron, for his part, denounced “a cowardly and unworthy act” and said he thought “to their injured loved ones and comrades”.
Statements which corroborate those of the governor of the Kherson region, Oleksandr Prokudin, posted Thursday on Telegram: “Foreign volunteers were killed and injured due to an enemy strike on Beryslav.” The Ukrainian national police, for their part, affirmed that an investigation for violation of the laws and customs of war had been opened, via a message also posted on Telegram.
The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) announced on Friday the opening of an investigation into war crimes and intentional harm to the life of a person protected by international humanitarian law in particular. This is the tenth procedure opened by the Pnat since the start of the conflict in February 2022.
