“The Olympic Games have benefited the image of the police”declared on Tuesday August 20 on franceinfo the spokesperson for the Alliance Police nationale union, Rudy Manna, more than a week after the end of the Olympic Games and a week before the start of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
“The Olympics went very well, but it went very well because there was an extremely heavy police presence”said the police unionist. “When you see a lot of ‘blue’ people in the streets of France, it’s extremely dissuasive. When there are a lot of us, we can do something other than roll around on the ground with individuals to challenge them in difficult situations.”
“In my 27-year career, I have rarely experienced so much sympathy and affection.”he continued. “The people of France have given it back to us because the French have been lovely to us, they have been extremely friendly.”
The police officer is now looking ahead to the Paralympic Games, which will begin on August 28, with 25,000 police officers and gendarmes mobilized in Île-de-France. “I won’t hide from you that it’s starting to take a bit of a toll on the organisations, because there have been no holidays.”he said.
“It’s normal that we do everything we can to make sure things go as well as possible, but we have to say it, we’re coming to the end of this ordeal and it’s starting to be difficult for the police.”concludes Rudy Manna, wishing “that social difficulties will not appear in France following these Paralympic Games so that the police can breathe.”
