(Paris) Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal have been selected to represent Spain at the Olympic tennis tournament, from July 27 to August 4 on clay at Roland Garros, where Alcaraz has just been crowned and Nadal won 14 time in a Grand Slam, the Spanish Federation revealed on Wednesday.
Alcaraz (2e world) and Nadal, returned to competition in mid-April at the start of the European season on earth and retained despite his fall in the ranking (264e) after sixteen months without almost playing due to injuries, are in the selection alongside Alejandro Davidovich (32e), Pablo Carreno (876e) and Marcel Granollers (2e in the ATP doubles rankings), announced David Ferrer, coach of the Spanish men’s team, in Barcelona.
Alcaraz and Nadal could, in addition to the singles, also play the doubles together.
Among the women, we find in particular Sara Sorribes (55e world and Spanish No.1) and Cristina Busca (67e), announced Anabel Medina, coach of the women’s team.
“We could win two or three medals (at the Olympics),” hoped Miguel Diaz, president of the Spanish Tennis Federation.
All national federations must give the final list for the Olympics by June 19 at the latest.
