Paris 16th: The Jardin d’Acclimatation

It’s at Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie we owe this park! The visionary Emperor’s ambition was to have a landscaped park laid out along the entire perimeter, designed according to the model of English gardens. It is in this context of “remodeling” on the edge of the capital that the Zoological Garden of Acclimatization was created, after fifteen months of work. Inaugurated in the presence of personalities such as Hector Berlioz, Alexandre Dumas, Prospère Mérimée or Théophile Gautier, the Garden arouses the fervor of the public from its opening, the October 9, 1860.
