Parents urged to advance children’s second dose

Parents whose children have already had a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine should advance their second appointment, believes the director of the research laboratory on host / virus interactions at the CRCHUM, Nathalie Grandvaux.

The latter reminds that it is possible to bring forward the second dose three weeks after having had the first injection. “We have the opening of schools which is still scheduled for January 17, so next week. We have 58% of children who had their first dose, but only 1% of children who had their second dose, ”she explained Tuesday in an interview with LCN.

To make a safe return to school, vaccination must be put forward, she believes.

According to the Quebec Immunization Protocol, the minimum interval required between the two doses is 21 days, or about three weeks, the Ministry of Health indicated last November.

In fact, the manufacturer of the COVID-19 vaccine recommends an interval of three weeks as well.

“Considering the contagion we are currently facing, I think that if we can anticipate it, it will be a good thing so that children are more protected when they return to school,” added Ms. Grandvaux.
