Speech has been released since the death of an intoxicated baby in a private crèche of the People & Baby group on June 22, in Lyon. Voices are raised to denounce other acts of abuse. A collective “for the protection of children in nurseries” has even just been set up by parents whose children have attended nurseries of the same group. This collective is dedicated to collecting all testimonies of abuse in any type of crèche (private or public).

The collective received hundreds of messages in a few hours, including that of this mother, Émilie Grégoire. She filed a complaint in December 2021 against People & Baby, after having withdrawn a month before her daughter Louise, 11 months today, from a Lyon nursery of the group, right next to that where the drama took place there is two weeks.

At the time, little Louise was four months old. She had only just arrived at this crèche when, in November, her parents, Steeve and Émilie Grégoire, discovered marks on her child’s face at the end of a day: “She has big finger marks on her right temple, marks under her right eye, and in addition to small yellow marks that will turn into bruises in the days that follow. They look like blows, so we would have rather tend to think it looks like a slap.”
Parents, shocked, ask for explanations, but the versions of the nursery vary. A supervisor assures that a child has “sat” on Louise, another speaker explains that “she was bitten by a little boy“. Explanations which are not convincing for Emilie Grégoire, who files a complaint and therefore withdraws her daughter from the establishment: “We had a lot of trouble terminatingsays the mother. It was a disaster, with scams afterwards at the termination level.”
“There is a lot of anguish because we also wonder what she suffered. What was the extent of the beatings she may have received? “other days? We also wonder if there weren’t other days when she received other blows without our knowing it…”

Today, Louise’s parents still tremble: “It’s excruciating to experience such a thing. There is a lot of guilt, anger. It’s very heavy as an event”. If the couple’s complaint is dismissed in April, Emilie Grégoire will not stop there: “We are already completely stunned by what has happened to us and what has happened recently. What we remember today is that it is a dishonest company”denounces the mother of the family.
She continues to franceinfo: “We still pay a fortune to this company. We thought we had found the ideal childcare method, that there were always several workers. We realize that it was a real scam”regrets Emilie Grégoire, who wrote to the prosecutor of Lyon and joined the collective which has just been created.
