“Paranoid Fantasies”, develour | The duty

Veteran of the Montreal electronic scene, composer, remixer, DJ and member of the duo Hoopalaï (with Pfreud), François Lebaron steps out of his comfort zone on this first complete album with his delavelour project: he sings there, imagine ! Already, on the opening title-song, a groove at a slow tempo that would go well in a 5 à 7 in Ibiza, and again (in an unsteady voice) on the sticky dub house of Don’t Wanna Text. The best of Lebaron is on the B-side, as he puts his flair for good progressive house to good use: the jerky I’ve gotta heat makes excellent use of a soul/gospel vocal sample, the hollow bed of low frequencies then leads us into the long, soaring Glimpse of Light, the most successful of the album. In a recited tone, he sings again on Hands in the Sanda bit more techno, inspired by synth-wave/new wave from another era, before closing the album on the hypnotic and heady blue sun. The kind of grooves that go well with a heat wave.
