The honorary consul of Benin in Montreal calls on the authorities to shed light on the abandonment of one of his compatriots on a sidewalk in Ahunstic at the end of September.
Luc Isidore Takpa confirmed that the woman at the center of this affair, revealed Tuesday by The Press, is a national of Benin who arrived in Canada five or six years ago. She is a mother of two children.
“I’m shocked, that’s for sure. I am surprised and shocked. Honestly, these are my first feelings as a human being,” Mr. Takpa explained in a telephone interview. The honorary consul called on the Office of Independent Investigations (BEI) to “go to the end” of its investigation into this situation.
He reported that she had just been transferred from the hospital to a rehabilitation center. He did not get specific details about his state of health. According to our information, she still suffers from serious paralysis.
“We must be very careful in our actions so as not to pass judgment,” he added. I deeply believe that we are in a country of justice. I have been in Canada for over 25 years. I am convinced that the authorities concerned will do their job and that justice will be done. »
The woman at the center of this affair, The Press refuses to identify, was arrested in front of a primary school in Ahuntsic on September 26 around 3:30 p.m. She was trying, in violation of a court decision, to make contact with one of her children.
After being restrained and handcuffed by the police, the woman complained of no longer feeling her limbs and being unable to move. She was still dropped off, an hour later, on the sidewalk in front of her HLM in the same neighborhood.
She stayed there for more than an hour before an ambulance arrived to help. Urgences-Santé explained that the call was poorly prioritized due to incomplete information given by citizens who reported 911.
The Press revealed Wednesday that the three police officers involved in abandoning the woman on a sidewalk were arrested for serious assault and failure to assist a person in danger by the BEI during the investigation. This is a very rare procedure.
