(Lech-Zürs) Austria’s Christian Hirschbühl beat his compatriot Dominik Raschner on Sunday in the final of a parallel race counting for the classification of the Alpine Skiing World Cup.
Facing a deficit of five tenths of a second after the first run, Hirschbühl won the second heat and he edged Raschner by seven hundredths of a second in the two races.
Suddenly, Hirschbühl deserved the first victory of his career.
Third place went to Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath.
Canadian Trevor Philp finished fifth and compatriot Erik Read finished seventh.
Both defeated in the quarter-finals, Philp and Read faced each other in one of the two-finals reserved for the losers of the previous stage.
Philp won both sets, the first of which was after Read was unable to complete it.
Philp then beat Austrian Adrian Pertl in the duel for fifth place, while Read had the better of Slovenian Stefan Hadalin in the race for seventh.
These performances earned Philp and Read 45 and 36 points, respectively, in the World Cup standings.
