Forget the burden of illness, hospital and heavy treatments. This is what twenty children and adults with cancer experienced this weekend in Besançon. Three associations help them reduce pain through strong emotions.
At the start, there is a small moment of dread, when the feet suddenly pedal in the void. Lucien, 16, discovers an open horizon, far from leukemia and specialized services. “It was incredible, especially the takeoff. When we fly, we feel free“, he confides. On the starting line, there was also Thiago, determined to try despite his arm made painful by cancer. Like him, around twenty children and teenagers discovered the hills of Besançon (Doubs).
Adults also try paragliding
At the origin of the adventure, three associations, which work hand in hand. “The goal is to detach them from the disease. We are not caregivers, we try voluntarily to give families a little extra“, explains Romain Kieffer, volunteer of the association “Liber Tailes”. The volunteers also have brothers and sisters affected by the disease. Joël, retired, has come to turn the page on chemo. “The disease, it is behind. We have to live day by day“he says.
