Tess Routliffe (SM7) was the only Quebecer to reach an A final at the conclusion of the Para-swimming World Series in Berlin, Germany. In action in the 200m medley on Sunday, the Montrealer finished eighth overall in the multiclass standings with 764 points.
Somewhat disappointed with her performance in qualifying earlier in the day, Routliffe wanted to be faster in the final race and she delivered. She completed the distance in 3 min 7.51 s, 1.81 seconds less than in the morning.
“I was able to improve my time and I’m very happy with that. That was my main goal for the final. There’s still a lot to work on before the World Championships in August, but it bodes very well and I’m already looking forward to it! commented Routliffe as he emerged from the water.
The Dutch Liesette Bruinsma (S11) was decorated with gold in this event thanks to her 942 points, ahead in order of her compatriot Lisa Kruger (S10, 892 points) and the German Verena Schott (S6, 887 points).
Also entered in the 200m medley, Bouchervilloise Clémence Paré (SM5) took 56e rank of the morning session with a time of 4 min 51.51 s.
For her part, Aurélie Rivard (S10) participated in the 100m backstroke, where she was aiming for a fourth medal in as many outings in Berlin this weekend. The one who celebrated her 27e birthday Sunday, however, could not fight their way to the A final at the end of qualifying.
However, she recovered in a good way by winning the B final in 1 min 14.62 s, a good time for 687 points. The swimmer from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu thus finished 11e of the general classification.
Her teammate Arianna Hunsicker (S10) also swam in the B final a few minutes late, but in the 50m butterfly. The Montrealer stopped the clock at 33.70 s for the occasion, which gave her the 18e place in the cumulative with 542 points.
On the men’s side, Félix Thomas Cowan (S9) and James Leroux (AB) could not pass the qualifications in their respective events. Cowan, from Brossard, finished 36e in the 50 m butterfly (30.60 s) and 67e in the 100 backstroke (1 min 17.13 s), while Leroux, from Repentigny, finished his 100 backstroke in 1 min 5.64 s.
