Para-Alpine Skiing World Cup | Alexis Guimond bronze medalist in Italy

(Montreal) Alexis Guimond took advantage of Wednesday to collect his eleventh medal of the Para-Alpine Ski World Cup season by finishing third in the standing giant slalom presented on the slopes of Cortina d’Ampezzo, in Italy.

Determined to redeem himself after being excluded from the final ranking of the downhill contested the day before, the Quebecer did not miss his chance to return to the podium.

He completed his race 2.07 seconds behind the winner, Frenchman Arthur Bauchet (1 min 16.87 s), to win his fourth medal of the campaign in giant slalom. The Swiss Robin Cuche (+0.94 seconds) was decorated with silver.

“It was a good day for me today (Wednesday). I had a very aggressive approach, especially at the top and in the middle of the course. My racing line was excellent and I was in the mix for victory, but I took a jump at the bottom of the course and it slowed me down a little too much,” summarized Guimond in an interview with Sportcom.

By virtue of this new medal, the 24-year-old skier remains at the height of the fight to obtain the crystal globe in giant slalom. He provisionally occupies third place in the cumulative ranking with 200 points, behind Bauchet (280) and Cuche (240).

He will have the chance to reduce the gap separating him from his two rivals from his next outings planned in Sapporo, Japan, where two giant slalom starts will be given on February 10 and 11.

“I had a good pace for this race and that demonstrates all the good teamwork done with the technician and the coaches. I’m proud of what we did today and I’m already looking forward to getting back on the slopes in Japan! » launched Guimond in conclusion.
