Director Paolo Sorrentino talks about the power of seduction and beauty which, according to him, is much broader than we think. A subject that he explores in his film “Parthenope”, presented at the Cannes Film Festival.
“I think that when we are young, we discover the force of seduction. It is through the force of seduction that the gaze and the forms of attraction pass“. For the Neapolitan director, Paolo Sorrentino, seduction is “a fantastic tool that accelerates the process of knowledge between people. (…) Through seduction, we can enter into a relationship regardless of the form”. A power that he explores in his new film “Parthenope” presented at the Cannes Film Festival.
In this film, he takes a woman as the main character.free, mysterious, spontaneous, curious, who loves life”. We follow his journey from birth until he is 73 years old. “What interests me is what I don’t know, in this case, it was the woman”. The plot takes place in Naples, the director’s childhood city.
The heroine leaves the carefree nature of early childhood to multiply the experiences that often punctuate adolescent life. “Then she becomes an adult and she changes.” This film pays homage “about the stages of life, about how time passes, about how we cope with it, about how time changes us”. Gary Oldman, Stefania Sandrelli, Luisa Ranieri… In “Parthenope”, experienced actors and beginners exchange lines.
