It’s already time to know the four players who will play in the final four. After the qualifications of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, there will only be one men’s match on Wednesday June 5, that of Alexander Zverev against Alex De Minaur in the evening. Among the women, Mirra Andreeva, 17, will face Aryna Sabalenka for her first Grand Slam quarter-final.
Only one match for men
Novak Djokovic’s retirement means there is only one men’s quarter-final scheduled for Wednesday. Alexander Zverev, who is one of the big favorites of this edition, defeating Holger Rune in five sets and more than four hours of match in the round of 16, will face Alex De Minaur in a night session. The Australian defeated Daniil Medvedev and will play his very first quarter-final at Roland Garros. The German will try to qualify for his fourth semi-finals in a row.
Rybakina, then Sabalenka
It will be a little more lively on the women’s side. Elena Rybakina will face Jasmine Paolini, one of the big surprises of the tournament. The 28-year-old Italian had never gone beyond the second round of a major tournament and will have to surpass herself to take out the Kazakhstani, who has not lost a set for two weeks.
In the other women’s match of the day, it will be David against Goliath. The young and talented Russian Mirra Andreeva, defeater of the last Frenchwoman in the running, Varvara Gracheva, will have to overcome the intractable Aryna Sabalenka, who, too, has not lost a set since the start of the tournament.
