The best team in NHL history, at least statistically, fell apart. And she did it more than spectacularly.
After blowing a 3-1 series lead, the Boston Bruins were booed by fans early in the game after falling 2-0 in the final game. They came from behind, however, and led until the last minute of play.
But Carter Verhaeghe flashed the red light in overtime to allow the Florida Panthers to win 4-3 and advance to the next round.
And so the team with the most wins in a season fell. The Bruins, 65 wins and 135 points, fell in the first round of the playoffs.
Perhaps it was with this trauma that the Bruins’ dominance ended. Captain Patrice Bergeron, 37, had juggled before committing to a single season with the club. Same scenario for the second center of the Bruins, David Krejci, 35, also convinced by the project of this last waltz.
The Panthers will face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the next round.
More details to come.
