(Montreal) The rise in COVID-19 cases observed in Quebec is prompting the Parti Québécois to request the appointment of an independent scientific observer for the management of the pandemic.

MPs Joël Arseneau and Pascal Bérubé made this request on Friday, by press release, also reiterating the PQ’s request for the national director of public health to be independent of politics.
The PQ believes that with the electoral period which will be launched next month, “it is unthinkable that the CAQ and its crisis unit continue to decide behind closed doors on the response to the pandemic in this context”.
The party believes that an independent observer will ensure “non-partisan and transparent crisis management for the best interest of all Quebecers”.
“It is absolutely unthinkable that the CAQ, with its crisis unit made up mostly of communications experts and political strategists, continues to make decisions on the sly to manage the health crisis in the midst of the election period,” said Mr. Arseneau, who is the spokesperson for the PQ on health.
The rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations caused national director of public health Luc Boileau to say on Thursday that Quebec has entered a seventh wave. However, no new health measures are planned for the moment.
Quebec reported Thursday 16 new deaths attributed to COVID-19 as well as an increase in hospitalizations.
