The panda twins from the Beauval zoo (Loir-et-Cher), Yandudu and Huanlili, celebrated their first birthday on Tuesday August 2. The media from all over the world and a crowd of curious people had gathered for the occasion at the animal park. The twins did not really do justice to the apple cake that had been served to them. The two unmistakable animals of Beauval have grown well, reaching almost 30 kg, while they weighed only less than 150 g at birth. Raising these animals, China’s national treasure, is complicated.
“Often pandas give birth to two babies, but usually they only raise the strongest, the biggest”, explains Rodolphe Delord, director of the ZooParc de Beauval Saint-Aignan (Loir-et-Cher). The two pandas attracted nearly 1.5 million visitors in 2021 and sell many derivative products which represent more than 3 million euros in revenue each year.
