On September 9, 2020, the public learned of the sad and sudden disappearance of Bertrand-Kamal, heroic participant in the famous TF1 adventure show “Koh-Lanta”. Suffering from pancreatic cancer, this “adventurer of the 4 lands” was brutally taken away at the age of only 30. In addition to millions of viewers shocked by this announcement, the young man left behind a collapsed family and upset teammates. Denis Brogniart, the host of this adventure game, maintains the memory of “Beka” every year and continues his media action to help research to overcome this type of dazzling cancer.
“You are that shining star in the sky.”
This Saturday, September 10, on his Instagram account, Denis Brogniart publishes a photo of him in the company of the ex-adventurer with these few words full of modesty and love: “My friend Beka! 2 years already. We miss you so much. But don’t worry, we are continuing the fight for research against the pancreatic cancer that killed you. We always say to each other with your parents Annick and Samir that you are this star that shines in the sky. And to conclude with a call for donations for the Bertrand-Kamal fund of the ARC Foundation, which aims to support research against all forms of cancer.
And it is a fight that is particularly close to the heart of the journalist since his own father himself died of cancer. Moreover, his meeting with Bertrand-Kamal particularly marked him, describing a rare young man, “a guy who had a look, who had light in his eyes like few. (…) He is someone to whom I had become attached, and when I learned, a few months after the show, that he was suffering from this cancer, I knew that he only had 10% chances of getting out of it”, he described in 2021 to our colleagues from “Europe 1”. Moved, he remembered: “Two days before his death, when I saw him, before thinking of him, he was thinking of me”. An exceptional person who, he thinks, always watches over his loved ones: “This guy, from where he is, I think he’s a star to those who knew him.”
