Pan-Canadian Emergency Alert System Trial Wednesday

The National Public Warning System is conducting a pan-Canadian trial of the emergency warning system on Wednesday.

Canadians should expect to see a test message from their provincial or territorial emergency management organization on television, radio and compatible wireless devices during the day.

In Quebec, the alert will sound at 1:55 p.m.

The organization that manages the system specifies that the test will simulate an emergency alert, starting with an alert tone.

The message will indicate that this is a test and that no action is required.

Tests like this are done twice a year in May and the third week of November.

Canadians do not have the option of opting out of the test or the actual alerts issued by the national alert system.
