Montreal’s Pamela Ware won the bronze medal in the 3-metre springboard on Friday at the FINA World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Ware, 30, completed her five dives with a total score of 332.00 points, just over nine points behind silver medalist Chang Yani of China (341.50).
The gold medal went to Chen Yiwen, also of China, with a cumulative score of 359.50 points.
This is the second medal for Canada at the World Aquatics. On Wednesday, Alberta diver Caeli McKay also won a bronze medal in the 10-metre platform.
For Ware, it is a fourth career podium finish at the FINA World Championships and her first since 2015.
Over the past few days, she had earned fourth place in the 1-metre springboard and fifth place in the 3-metre synchronized springboard, along with her partner Mia Vallée.
Ware was scheduled to compete tomorrow in the mixed 3m springboard with Bryden Hattie but chose to skip it to keep her body fresh and ready for the Diving World Cup Super Final in Berlin from August 4-6.
In addition, Ware’s performance in the 3-metre springboard in Fukuoka means that Canada will have a representative in this event at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
