Ahmed and his wife Maha are miraculous survivors of the strike on the Al-Mawasi displacement camp in Khan Younis that killed 19 people and injured about 60, according to the Hamas Health Ministry.

An area considered humanitarian, and therefore normally spared from bombing. “All four of us were buried, along with my husband and our two children.says Maha. It was past midnight, I didn’t understand what happened to us.”

“I didn’t see anything, I didn’t hear anything, not even the explosions.Ahmed continues. I was sleeping and then suddenly I woke up: I was underground, I had the canvas of my tent over my face. And I felt someone pulling me. I was buried alive. They pulled me out of the rubble.”

According to the Israeli army, “Hamas terrorists operating in a command center” were targeted and military leaders of the movement were among the dead, including three presented as “directly involved in the execution of the October 7 massacre”Hamas has denied the presence of fighters in the humanitarian zone near Khan Younis.

Israeli bombs have ripped open the sandy ground of the refugee camp. There are now two holes about ten meters deep. All the displaced people who lived at the site of the strike are dead. Nimr lost his niece, the little girl was 5 years old: “They dropped five or six missiles on displaced people’s tents. Can you imagine? Weapons that can reduce mountains to dust were dropped on children in an area designated as safe by the Israeli army itself.”

“It was the army that ordered us to come here and we obeyed. And in the end, babies or old people, they burn us all alive.”
