The Israeli army dropped leaflets over northern Gaza on Friday, October 13, ordering the population to evacuate. IDF announces a new offensive phase.
By the thousands, Palestinians are fleeing by all means: on foot, pulled by donkeys or piled into vans, with a few belongings hastily taken away. Order was given by Israel to evacuate all of northern Gaza. “Look what’s happening here. Everyone is leaving, look at the road”, said a man. Another says go “South”. This mass exile was triggered by leaflets in the sky during the morning of Friday October 13. They were dropped by Israeli drones, with an unequivocal message printed in Arabic: “The IDF calls for the evacuation of all civilians from Gaza City. In the days to come, we will continue to operate with strength.” Hamas calls for people to stay put.
An unrealistic exile according to the United Nations
Evacuating this zone, 15 km long, would mean moving more than a million residents to the South. The Israeli army first mentioned a deadline of 24 hours to leave, unrealistic according to the United Nations, even impossible for humanitarian organizations. In this region, many roads are blocked by rubble, and there are increasing numbers of seriously injured people in hospitals.
