The leader of Hamas was killed in a strike on Tuesday, July 30 in Tehran, Iran. Israel spoke of a targeted strike, without claiming responsibility. Many countries condemned the assassination, while the Palestinian movement assures that it will not go unanswered.

In footage filmed on Tuesday, July 30, Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh stands next to Iran’s new president, Massoud Pezeshkian, in Tehran, Iran. A few hours later, his death was announced in a Hamas statement. The news quickly made headlines in Iran. The movement accused Israel of being behind the deadly strike and announced that this act would not go unanswered.

Ismail Haniyeh had become one of the main targets of the Hebrew state since the attacks of October 7. He became known in 2006, when he became Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority. For several years, he had lived in exile between Qatar and Turkey. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the death of the Palestinian leader, whom he described as a “brother”.
