Guillaume Canet continues filming in 2023 … A full-time job to bursting with which the 50-year-old actor is used to since the year started off on a whirlwind for the husband of Marion Cotillard. The reason ? On February 1, “Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom” saw the light of day in theaters. A film directed by him and in which the latter also lends his features to one of the characters in the film: Asterix.
A feature film with a 5-star cast eagerly awaited by fans of the saga… But unfortunately for Guillaume Canet, this film is far from having unanimous support. Indeed, if “Asterix and Obelix: the Middle Empire” made the best start for a French film for 10 years, the director suffered many harsh criticisms following the release of the comedy.

Guillaume Canet his reaction to criticism
“It’s never pleasant, but I can’t help it. Me, I worked for five years to achieve what I wanted to do: a great adventure show. Some people like it, others don’t. The best ratings or reviews don’t always go to the films that attract the most viewers,” saidhe declared. And to add concerning the “Canet Bashing” of which he was the object: “It hurts, of course. But that’s part of the job, you get used to it over time. I hope I will make another film that will please my detractors more and change their minds about my work”.
Despite the bad reviews, Guillaume Canet wanted to insist that Asterix was absolutely not a failure. The proof with 4.6 million spectators, the feature film achieves the best score for a French film in 2023. “It has been sold all over the world and has to date made more than two million admissions internationally, with boxes in Europe, in Poland for example. […] I am very happy with the feedback I get from people on the streets, especially children,” he assured.
“Last month in Brittany, a group of kids asked me to take pictures with “Asterix”.It means a lot more to them, that’s the most important thing for me,” concluded the actor. A beautiful moment that counterbalances with the negative opinions…
