Ovechkin joins Jagr as 3rd all-time leading scorer in NHL history

(Calgary) Alex Ovechkin scored twice to join Jaromir Jagr for third in NHL history with 766 goals and led the Washington Capitals to a 5-4 victory over the Calgary Flames, Tuesday.

The next player Ovechkin will try to cap on this prestigious list is Gordie Howe, who has totaled 801 career successes. Wayne Gretzky sits atop this chapter with 894 goals.

Nic Dowd, Connor Sheary and Anthony Mantha also scored for the Capitals (31-18-9), who signed a third successive victory.

Elias Lindholm, on two occasions, Adam Ruzicka and Oliver Kylington hit the target for the Flames (34-15-7). The Pacific Division leaders are now 14-2-1 in their last 17 games.

Vitek Vanecek made 31 saves for the Capitals to improve his record to 13-7-5.

Dan Vladar, who started the game for the second time in three games while Jacob Markstrom enjoyed a night off, stopped 22 shots.
