A fire in an access well to the Hydro-Québec network on Laurier Avenue West forced authorities to interrupt power in a large area at the intersection of the Outremont and Plateau-Mont-Royal boroughs on Tuesday before noon.
Around 11:40 a.m., the Info Pannes website still reported around 6,000 homes without power in the area.
The City of Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM) initiated this power interruption after being informed of a fire in an access shaft not far from the Bank of Montreal branch, on Laurier Avenue West. .
“It’s a sheath that would have melted” in the well, triggering a fire, mentioned SIM section head Marie-Ève Beausoleil.
Officers from the City of Montreal Police Service are present in the area to ensure the flow of traffic, in the absence of traffic lights. However, power should be restored in the coming minutes.
