A case of the Omicron variant was detected in a restaurant in Laval, following an office party that led to an outbreak of COVID-19. The restaurant is closed at least until December 23.
Of the 32 people who attended a party at Le Boating Club restaurant on December 9, only one received a negative test result for COVID-19, according to information obtained by Radio-Canada.
Spouses and children of rally participants also contracted the virus.
“We regret to inform you that the public health of Laval has just informed us that a case of Omicron has been detected at our restaurant-bar,” Le Boating Club posted on its Facebook page on Friday. “As a precaution, we decided to close the restaurant-bar for the week. We will certainly reopen around December 22 or 23, but certainly December 28, ”we can read in the same publication.
The restaurant has asked all of its staff to go for a test for COVID-19 this week. A case of the virus was detected in an employee of the establishment, confirms the Laval Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) in Laval.
Thursday evening, Laval Public Health confirmed that nine restaurant customers contracted the virus during this event, but that this number should increase, since some guests came from other sectors, said Marie-Ève Despatie-Gagnon, porte – speech of the CISSS de Laval.
Three new outbreaks in hospitals
This Thursday, three new outbreaks were recorded in hospitals in the metropolis, at the Lakeshore General Hospital, at the Pierre-Boucher Hospital, and at the Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur in Montreal.
The outbreak at Lakeshore Hospital broke out on Friday. “Less than five people, employees and users twice vaccinated, have tested positive,” said in writing the spokesperson for the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, Hélène Bergeron-Gamache. The other patients and employees of the unit affected by the outbreak were tested as a preventive measure, and had a negative result.
At the Pierre-Boucher Hospital in Longueuil, “a dozen employees and a dozen users have tested positive,” confirmed in writing by Marie-Pierre Laflamme, spokesperson for the CISSS de la Montérégie-Est. No new cases have been reported since the first screening. If the trend continues, screening tests will be suspended on December 24.
A smaller outbreak occurs at the Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur. No patient is affected, but four employees have tested positive for COVID-19, said Séléna Champagne, spokesperson for the CIUSSS du Nord-de-l’Île-de-Montréal.
It was also reported on Wednesday that a COVID-19 outbreak was hitting Notre-Dame Hospital in Montreal, which suspended non-emergency operations at the facility on Thursday.
