Outaouais: partial breakdown of service in radiotherapy

The lack of radiologists forced the Outaouais Integrated Health and Social Services Center to reduce its activities at the Gatineau cancer center for an indefinite period.

The reduction in the volume of radiotherapy treatments will only affect patients from Abitibi-Témiscamingue, who will be redirected to the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) in Montreal, after the establishment of a service corridor.

“Depending on the volume of Outaouais patients requiring radiation oncology treatment, some of these patients may need to be transferred,” the CISSS de l’Outaouais said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Health Establishment wants to reassure patients that the usual volume of radiation therapy treatments will resume quickly and promises to do its utmost to recruit new radiation oncology technologists.

“We would like to specify that this situation has no other impact on the services offered at the cancer center and that chemotherapy treatments are continuing normally,” it added.
