A collision involving a van and a heavy-duty truck on Highway 50 years claimed the life of a driver in the middle of the day Friday.
According to information from the Sûreté du Québec, the accident occurred around 11:15 a.m. Friday, on Highway 50 near Fassett, in Outaouais.
The driver of the van was entering Highway 50 eastbound at kilometer 217 when she allegedly tried to turn around. The driver of a heavy goods vehicle who was also entering the highway could not have avoided it.
The driver, a woman in her 80s, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She finally succumbed to her injuries, Camille Savoie, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, said in the evening. The passenger, a woman in her 70s, also suffered injuries, but there is no fear for her life. The truck driver was not injured.
A reconstructionist and an investigator from the Sûreté du Québec traveled to the scene to analyze the scene and try to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
