Outaouais | A woman perishes in a fire in Gatineau

Around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, a smell of smoke disrupted the lives of dozens of people living in a multi-unit building in Gatineau. Among these, a thirty-year-old, who lost her life.


About forty people had to be evacuated during a fire that affected an apartment building on Lafrenière Street in Gatineau, Outaouais, on Wednesday. Some with injuries were taken care of by the region’s paramedic services.

Others were able to take refuge and warm up temporarily in Société de transport de l’Outaouais buses. The Canadian Red Cross was called to the scene to help the victims, more than twenty people.

A total of 51 firefighters were mobilized to deal with the major fire. In a dwelling, they found a burnt person and an unconscious 36-year-old woman. Both were taken to hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead. According to the final count, three people were injured, according to the report made public by the Gatineau Fire Department.

The flames were declared under control around 12:30 p.m.

The investigation was forwarded to the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG). The scene has been protected for analysis. “The SPVG command post has been moved to the scene in order to facilitate the work of the investigators, who still have to take several steps”, specifies the SPVG in a press release.
