(Bouchette) A woman died following a violent face-to-face with a vehicle trying to overtake, Tuesday afternoon, in Bouchette, Outaouais.

Posted at 7:51 p.m.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reported that the head-on collision occurred around 3 p.m. on Route 105, near Chemin du Cimetière.

“According to preliminary information, the driver of a vehicle traveling in a southerly direction overtook a stretch without noticing that there was another vehicle coming in the opposite direction, i.e. in a northerly direction”, said Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, a spokeswoman for the SQ.

The driver who made the pass was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries ranging from minor to moderate, but which would not be life threatening.

The driver of the vehicle that was traveling in her lane found herself “incarcerated and unconscious for long minutes”, described Sergeant Bilodeau. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

The police say they are studying several hypotheses, including the voluntary gesture and glare from the sun. Witnesses have yet to be met.

Overtaking is allowed at the place where the accident occurred, but “obviously the person did not have time to overtake at all”, noted Sergeant Bilodeau in an interview with The Canadian Press.

The road has been closed for the purpose of the collision investigation.
