Outaouais | A person loses his life during a police intervention, the BEI will investigate

(Pontiac) A person died during an intervention by the Sûreté du Québec in Clarendon, in the MRC of Pontiac in Outaouais, on Monday. The Office of Independent Investigations launched an investigation on Tuesday.

Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) were reportedly called about a family dispute around 11 a.m. In the direction of the scene, they would have made a verification of possession of a firearm, which would have proved negative.

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) reports that upon their arrival at the scene, the police would have been directed to a shed behind the residence.

When the police went to meet the person, the latter allegedly pointed a firearm at them.

“A police officer would have drawn his firearm and would have fired in the direction of the person who fell inside the shed”, specifies the BEI.

A security perimeter was then established, then an “Operation Net” would have been initiated at 11:43 a.m. This type of operation occurs when a situation could not be resolved.

“Around 2:18 p.m., following checks by the intervention group, the person was found unconscious in the shed and his death was then declared,” adds the BEI.

The BEI, which investigates cases where a person dies by a firearm used by a police officer, dispatched five investigators to this case. They will be supported by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

The SPVM is also investigating the events that occurred before the police intervention.
