It’s the final rush before the festivities, and everywhere, on the radio, in stores, in the street, you hear them constantly: Christmas songs. With the timeless ones, of course, but also new ones delivered every year. Small selection.

You saw it coming from afar, as usual, and yet… For the first time in a long time, dear Mariah Carey was dethroned during the holidays. Blame it on Brenda Lee and a title from 1958, Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.

At 79, she took first place on the Billboard 100, the reference ranking, leaving a Mariah Carey who we imagine deeply upset, given that she now seems to bet her entire career and her income on Christmas and his tube more and more painful. And what’s more, she saw a rival, Cher, come and squat her territory with a Christmas album, outright, and in particular a song sung with Stevie Wonder.

Other beautiful voices this year are covering titles from the past. The singer Ala.ni and her cover of Riverby Joni Mitchell.

Or even Camélia Jordana and a very traditional and very beautiful Christmas title, recorded for Amazon Music.

Recording a Christmas album of original songs has been a desire for a long time for Étienne Daho, who has just released what will perhaps be his first extract, Christmas With You.

Finally, even if Christmas does not lend itself to competition or rankings, and if the spirit of the period invites harmony, we must resolve to it: there is indeed a song, released this year, above of all the others. And it is the work of Eels, with Christmas, Why You Gotta Do Me Like This.
