“Our group is burning to vote for it, but it will not vote for it today,” declares RN deputy Guillaume Bigot

National Rally deputy Guillaume Bigot explained during his speech at the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 8, that his group would not vote for the New Popular Front’s motion of censure against the government of Michel Barnier. “Our group is burning to vote for it, but it will not vote for it today, not with the New Popular Front”he declared, explaining that the RN could vote for censure later. “We don’t censor, because it’s useless at this stage”he also said. Olivier Faure denounces the “democratic misappropriation” of the Barnier government. “It has been fashionable since your appointment to act as if July 7 had not existed”declared the first secretary of the socialist party“On July 7, it was the New Popular Front which came out on top!”he said, denouncing an “electoral hold-up”.

The relative majority which accompanies the government is today the least relative”, affirms Michel Barnier. “You are suing the government for illegitimacy“, declared the Prime Minister addressing Olivier Faure, regretting a motion of censure “a priori”. “I don’t need to be reminded of the government, which is at work, that it is in the minority. There is no absolute majority for anyone (…), so there are simply every time relative majorities”he added.

A motion of censure doomed to failure. Michel Barnier should survive this motion of censure without too much difficulty. Even if the 192 signatory deputies voted in favor, with certain independents from Liot, the bar of 289 votes seems unattainable without those of the 141 deputies of the RN-Ciotti alliance.

The budget in the viewfinder. This is one of the questions of the ballot: will members or ex-members of the presidential camp, offended by the very right-wing composition of the government, go so far as to censor it? Still worried about certain avenues, such as reducing the number of civil servants, MoDem deputy Erwan Balanant does not imagine “no one at this stage is going towards a motion of censure”.
