Our good addresses in the Gaspé | The Press

There are so many beautiful and good things to do in Gaspésie that we could easily have gone around in a month without having… gone around! Here, some places to eat, drink, sleep and play on the peninsula.

Sea Shack Party Inn

The Sea Shack’s bar and terrace take you on a journey.

Gaspé or Nicaragua? At the Sea Shack, we ask ourselves the question, so much the buildings and the colorful furniture, the thatched roofs and the festive atmosphere are reminiscent of the sunny destinations of the South. At the Cantine Barberousse, there are a few dishes prepared with local catches, such as delicious turbot croquettes, but also poutine! Day or night, there is always action in this small exotic complex.

Eskamer

Eskamer is known for its canyoning outings.

A six-minute drive from Panora, Eskamer offers kayaking, canyoning, and ziplining. The site, located between Route 132 and the river, also includes a campground, a chalet in the trees and a swimming pool/spa in an elevated container.

Explore

There is a touch pool at Exploramer.

Is it less beautiful? This is the perfect opportunity to discover the Exploramer complex. Its mission is to make visitors aware of the preservation and knowledge of the marine environment of the St. Lawrence, with exhibitions, aquariums and even a tasting of marine species valued by the Fourchette bleue program. You can also book an interpretation outing on the banks or at sea.

Gaspe

In the Penouille des Chalets sector of the park, the little houses are colorful.

Steamer Gaspe

The best cafe around also has a nice kitchen and a selection of natural wines. We go there for brunch, served every day between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., for a little afternoon pick-me-up or for happy hour.

Snack bar JoAnn

There is a whole snack culture in Gaspésie and this one is one of the favorites of Samuel Perreault, co-owner of Le Paquebot, among other things for its chicken favorites (fries, chicken, coleslaw, peas, sauce).

Park cabins

We stayed in one of the small chalets in the “Au bord de la baie” sector. The other sector, “Penouille”, is opposite one of the most beautiful beaches in the region. Well maintained, these cabins are particularly well located for exploring Forillon Park.

Nautika Cottages

The Nautika cabins are a new accommodation offer between Gaspé and Percé.

Located between Gaspé and Percé, these modern chalets that can accommodate six people were built on the edge of a cliff. It seems that the sunrises over the bay are spectacular there.

Therese refreshment bar

Brett & Sauvage beer is often found at the Buvette Thérèse.

Opened in spring 2021, this bar which is in fact a restaurant in its own right offers an experience, let’s say, a little more “modern” than most of its neighbors: small dishes (almost all based on local fish and seafood ), cocktails, craft beers (including the delicious spontaneous fermentations of Brett & Sauvage) and natural wines.

fisherman’s house

The Fisherman’s House is a Percé institution.

A must in Percé, the Maison du Pêcheur brings together customers from all walks of life. As we passed by: couples, families, young people celebrating the end of their studies (and then meeting at Pit Caribou to continue the party!). It was beautiful to see. The chef, Christophe Mamelonet, winner of one of the five “Revelation of the Year 2021” Laurels, knows how to do justice to the products of the surrounding waters with a cuisine of abundance.

To drink !

The spirits for tasting at the Secret Society were particularly accomplished.

Around Percé, you can find the best things to drink in Quebec in terms of beer and spirits. The Auval brewery no longer needs an introduction. It’s time to refuel, in Gaspésie, where a good part of the production is retained. We will also want to try to find the spontaneous fermentations of Brett & Sauvage. Watch for launches on the nano-brewery’s Facebook page or check the “Points of sale” tab. The Secret Society, on the other hand, produces all its spirits from grain, fruit or syrup to the bottle. During our visit, the spirits offered for tasting and sale on site were precise, delicious, whether it was the cherry brandy, the gin elixirs (plum or rhubarb) or the herbal liqueur chartreuse style. , with a predominance of mint and lovage. The other Gaspé addresses on the new “Eastern Distillery Route” are the Mitis, O’Dwyer and Marigots distilleries.

Carlton

William B oysters are produced in Chaleur Bay by the Ferme mariculture du grand large.

Big sea mariculture farm

A small aperitif of local oysters (the William B) or a mussel supper? The counter of the Grand Large mariculture farm is open every day, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., directly opposite the Le Naufrageur brasserie.

The Frigidaire Bistro

Poissonnerie Carleton has a canteen that serves excellent lobster or shrimp salad rolls (with equally excellent fries), chowder, seafood tasting plates, and more. In the evening, the menu is a little more elaborate with pasta, risotto, tacos, for example. We eat on the terrace or take it home or to the beach.

bulk carrier

Here, it is a paradise for vegetarians and vegans. Le Vraquier’s sandwiches and meal bowls are as tasty as they are nutritious.

Quai Roastery

When we passed by, the cafe that showcases this excellent roaster was a few days away from reopening after some great renovations. This is THE place to have your espresso on an Adirondack chair while admiring the river (or on a swing inside!).
