The government has no plans to postpone the start of the school year after the Christmas holidays despite the fifth wave of Covid-19. Invited this Tuesday noon in We are not immune to making a good show presented by Willy Rovelli on France Bleu, Jean-Michel Blanquer, Minister of National Education reaffirmed his intention not to close schools.
“Our goal is obviously not to delay the start of the school year. Do not consider the school as the first thing to close when going to take restrictions“, said the minister, but only”in the last instance, when there really is nothing else to do, when we have closed all the rest of the company“.
“No hypothesis is ever excluded, but in any case, the preferred hypothesis is to return on the scheduled day, possibly taking additional protective measures.“, added the Minister of National Education.
“I think it has almost become my slogan, but it’s more than a slogan, it’s a deep conviction: school is not an adjustment variable“, he argued.”Children need it very strongly and since the first confinement, we have understood that first of all, a teacher is a job and that, secondly, children are very unhappy when they no longer have school.“.
No teacher paid less than 2,000 euros per month by 2024
Jean-Michel Blanquer also wished to thank the professors of France for their involvement since the start of the pandemic. “It is thanks to them that it was possible“, he said, referring to the fact that the educational level in CP has not fallen, according to him, in particular because France has few closed its schools despite the epidemic. From the evaluations carried out in CP and CE1, Jean-Michel Blanquer explained that the first confinement caused a drop in the level, especially in reading.
“But on the other hand, good news, in September 2021, we saw that this air gap was caught up, and even better, we continued to progress compared to 2018“, declared the minister. Jean-Michel Blanquer took the opportunity to reiterate his promise: no professor will be paid below 2,000 euros by me by 2024.
A salary increase which mainly targets young teachers. “From the beginning of the year 2022, young people who start the trade will earn around 1,875 euros per month minimum. My goal is that within two or three years to be at 2,000 euros for the lowest salary for a teacher“, detailed the minister.
He also recalled the various bonuses that some teachers may have received: 150 euros in IT bonus, 450 euros for school directors, 3,000 euros per year for teachers who work in a reinforced education network.
