“Our fishing has been totally sacrificed”, deplores the RN, calling for “to use all the means of retaliation at our disposal”

“We must not be afraid of being in the competition and possibly in the trade war”, said Nicolas Bay, MEP for the National Gathering, Tuesday, November 2 on Franceinfo concerning Franco-British tensions around the post-Brexit fishing license crisis. While France has assured that it will not apply a sanction against the British before a ministerial meeting, scheduled for Thursday in Paris, to settle this conflict, Nicolas Bay decided that it was necessary “use all the means of retaliation at your disposal.”

“We realize today that Brexit may be a very bad deal for us”, he added, believing that “our fishing has been totally sacrificed”. According to him, the Brexit negotiations have resulted in the fishing issue being dealt with “in disaster”, “because the Germans and the European Commission did not care about French fishing.”

“The British had all the advantages without the disadvantages”, lamented the RN MEP. “The British make 90% of their exports from their fishery to the European market and have been given the opportunity to access it without tariffs or quotas”, he continued, “they are no longer constrained by European law, no longer constrained by the decisions of the Court of Justice.”

“We must tell them that if they do not honor their commitments to French fishermen, the possibility of accessing the European market for British fishing will be restricted.”

“We must also get out of the free trade model”, added Nicolas Bay “without necessarily leaving the European Union” if it is possible to “reform it in depth”. “If we count on Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen, [la présidente de la Commission européenne], to defend the interests of Normandy or Hauts-de-France, we will have to wait a long time “, declared the elected National Assembly according to whom, “We must change everything in the European Union, from floor to ceiling, the functioning which must be more democratic and the political orientations which lead to a collective impotence.”
