Our expert’s Thursday NHL bet: why not the Flyers?

With our sports bet of the day on Wednesday, we took a chance on an underdog who was playing overseas, but unfortunately he couldn’t finish the job. Indeed, we took the Bruins who lost 2 to 1 in overtime in New Jersey.

This article will now feature my top NHL pick for Thursday, December 14.

This choice is supported by one of my NHL betting systems called “The Hot Scorers”.

How it works

Following this betting strategy, when a team has scored more than four goals in each of their last three games (which they have not necessarily won), then bet against them if they are playing on the road.

The Washington Capitals are on the road Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers. Washington won its last two games against the New York Rangers 4-0 and the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2.

Before these two victories, the Capitals had managed to score four goals in a 5-4 loss against the Dallas Stars.

So, following the rules of “The Hot Scorers” betting angle, I am betting that the Flyers will win.

Several other reasons

There are other reasons why I like this choice; let me share a few.

Expectations were low for the Flyers heading into the season, but they currently sit in third place in the Metropolitan Division, ahead of the Capitals, with a 15-10-3 record.

The Flyers lost their last game in overtime against the Nashville Predators, but were playing well before that loss. They had won four straight games.

One thing that concerns me about this game is that historically the Capitals have played well against the Flyers with a 10-5 record in their last 15 meetings.

Flyers goaltender Carter Hart bounced back from four straight losses in November to win his last three starts, allowing just four goals during that stretch.

Advantage to Hart

Over the entire season, Hart improved to 9-6-1, with a 2.42 goals-against average and .919 save percentage.

His great performance between the pipes is one of the main reasons why I support the Flyers at home against the Capitals.
