“We are in the middle of the procedure with the FIA, we hope to complete this file. At that time, all the facts will be put on the table and we can talk openly about why we think our costs are fully in line.. Under a sanction from the International Automobile Federation for exceeding the budget ceiling during the 2021 season, the Red Bull team assured that this was not the case on Saturday October 22, before the qualifying for the United States Grand Prix.

“We hope to reach a resolution in the near future”, added his boss Christian Horner at a press conference, he who was expected the day before to communicate on the subject. The first speech had been canceled because the interview requested with the president of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, had not yet taken place.

On Thursday, the body made a sanction proposal to Red Bull, which the team must accept or not. The team of now double world champion Max Verstappen, the only ones to exceed the budget ceiling in 2021, the first season of this financial regulation, has committed a “minor breach”i.e. less than 5% of the ceiling set at 145 million dollars.

“This measure is a new process. A complicated set of financial regulations contained in a 52-page dossier, subject to different interpretations by different accounting specialists”, blew Horner. F1 regulations provide that any team found at fault incurs “a financial or sporting penalty”. If Red Bull does not admit that it is at fault, and therefore decides to refuse the agreement, the matter will be taken to the arbitration committee responsible for the budget cap.
