Ottawa will reallocate $10.5 billion to health care and housing

The federal government will reallocate $10.5 billion from the budgets of 69 departments, agencies and Crown corporations to increase investments in health care and housing, announced the President of the Treasury Board, Anita Anand.

Details are included in the government’s main estimates, tabled in the House of Commons on Thursday morning.

The main estimates indicate how much money departments and agencies will receive for the next fiscal year, excluding new spending that could be announced in the spring budget.

Ms. Anand also provided an update on how the government is working to deliver on its promise to reduce spending on travel and external consultants.

Nearly a quarter of the funds reallocated next year come from the Department of National Defense.

Documents, however, show the department is also on track to get an increase of more than $2.5 billion over what it was allocated last year.
