(Ottawa) Federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland will present her fall economic statement in the House of Commons on November 21.
The mini-budget is expected to provide an update on federal finances as well as new measures that reflect the government’s priorities.
Mme Freeland promised the fall economic statement would focus on housing and affordability, two dominant issues in federal policy that are top of mind for Canadians.
The Liberals have already announced some housing measures in recent months, but all eyes will be on what additional steps they take to help ease the housing shortage.
The federal government also faces budgetary pressures from a slowing economy and scrutiny over excessive government spending, and Mme Freeland promised to prioritize fiscal responsibility.
The latest fiscal monitoring report from the Ministry of Finance indicates that the federal government recorded a deficit of 4.3 billion between April and August.
