In a press release Thursday, the Senators said the average annual deal value is $835,000. The contract will take effect in 2023-24 and will net Kastelic $800,000 in the first season, and $870,000 in 2024-25.

The 23-year-old Kastelic has just started his third season in professional hockey, and his second in the NHL. After the Senators’ first six games this season, he has two goals, which ties him for fourth on the team.

In 22 NHL games, all with the Senators, Kastelic has four goals and two assists, as well as 19 penalty minutes.

He also scored 38 points, including 18 goals, in 95 games with the Belleville Senators, the Senators’ AHL farm club.

Phoenix native Kastelic was a fifth-round pick, 125e overall, Senators in the 2019 draft, after a career in the Junior League West.

“Mark has worked tirelessly to earn everything he’s had since his late selection three years ago,” general manager Pierre Dorion said in a press release.

“He is reliable, competitive, takes jealous care of his physical condition and regularly shows the will to face any challenge. He proved to be an example to follow for the young players and hopefuls of our organization. »
