One of the team’s key acquisitions in a summer that raised expectations for the Capital roster, the former Philadelphia Flyers captain saw his team fall 4-1 to the Philadelphia Maple Leafs. Toronto in its first game of the pre-season schedule presented at Scotiabank Arena.

Although linemates Tim Stützle and Alex DeBrincat aided in the former’s goal to open the scoring, Giroux was not in good spirits when he showed up for an interview with Sportsnet during the second intermission, after his club allowed three goals in that engagement, including Denis Malgin’s game-winning goal scored when the new line was on the ice.
