Ottawa Senators | Goaltender Mads Sogaard is the NHL Rookie of the Month for February

(New York) Ottawa Senators goaltender Mads Sogaard has been named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for February.

The 22-year-old was 4-0-1 with a 2.33 goals-against average and 92.2% save percentage in six appearances in net for the Senators.

Sogaard, who began his career on the Bettman circuit last February, is the fourth goaltender in Senators history to score points in each of his first five season outings, after Ray Emery (6-0-1) in 2005-06, Robin Lehner (2-0-4) in 2012-13 and Jani Hurme (3-0-2) in 2000-01.

The Dane made at least 30 saves in three of his five starts in February, and he also allowed two goals or less on three occasions last month. He finished the month with three straight wins, a 1.67 GAA and a 93.8% save percentage.

The NHL said in a statement that Sogaard finished ahead of Arizona Coyotes goaltender Connor Ingram, Coyotes forward Matias Maccelli, Buffalo Sabers forward Jack Quinn, Calgary Flames forward Jakob Pelletier and Anaheim Ducks center Mason McTavish.

Senators forward Shane Pinto was named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for October.
