Ottawa reopens direct flights from Morocco

(Montreal) Fully vaccinated travelers and unvaccinated travelers who are authorized to enter Canada will be able to take direct flights from Morocco to Canada starting October 29, subject to certain health measures.

By reopening its borders to foreign travelers in September, Ottawa still excluded direct flights from Morocco.

The Canadian government had indefinitely suspended, as of August 29, all direct passenger flights from this Maghreb country, following a recommendation by the Public Health Agency of Canada. There was then an increase in August in the number of positive results for COVID-19 tests among travelers arriving from Morocco to Canada.

However, “given the improving situation” in Morocco, the Public Health Agency of Canada recommended that Transport Canada lift the “notice to airmen” which limits direct flights from this country.

However, additional public health measures will be put in place. Travelers must therefore present a negative result to a recognized molecular screening PCR test, which must be carried out within 72 hours of departure.

Instead of this negative result, travelers will also be able to present proof of a positive result from a molecular screening test done 14 to 180 days before the intended departure to Canada.

In addition, travelers who can enter Canada and who will arrive from Morocco by an indirect route must always present a negative result to a molecular screening test taken within 72 hours before their flight from a third country (other than Morocco ).

Travelers will be required to upload relevant health information prior to departure into the ArriveCAN app, whether through the mobile app or website, and they will be required to wear a mask throughout the trip.

Travelers who are unable to meet these requirements will be denied boarding, Transport Canada warns.
