An Ottawa police officer has admitted donating to the “freedom convoy” GoFundMe platform that took to the streets of the federal capital for several weeks last February.
Constable Kristina Neilson pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of dishonorable conduct under the Police Services Act, reported CBC News.
The representative of the police would have made a donation of $ 55 on the fundraising platform on January 23, two days after the start of the arrival of the demonstrators who were part of the convoy in Ottawa.
When the collection for the convoy was removed from the GoFundMe platform due to a violation of its terms of service, this donation was refunded to him. The policewoman, however, donated the same amount to another collection platform for the convoy, GiveSendGo, which was also reimbursed to her.
The Ottawa Police Service’s Professional Standards Unit was made aware of the matter last February and a Professional Standards Section investigation was launched.
The officer has no history of misconduct. A judgment is expected to be rendered at a later date.
