Ottawa considers allowance for seniors

In the context of an aging population, the federal government plans to introduce an “Aging in Place” allowance to help seniors stay at home.

To do this, Ottawa announced Thursday the creation of a committee of experts by instructing the National Council of Seniors (CNA) to make recommendations in line with the implementation of this allowance for the benefit of the elderly.

Justin Trudeau’s government says it is committed to helping seniors and funding programs and services that seniors need if they want to live independently in their homes with their communities.

“As Minister of Seniors, I want to give older Canadians the opportunity to age in the comfort of their own homes in the communities that support them,” Seniors Minister Kamal Khera said in a statement Thursday.

“We know Canadians want to age closer to home and family. To do this, they should have access to the safe and quality health care they need and deserve,” said Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos.
