Ottawa considering hiring a third-party company for dental reimbursements

Health Department officials say the federal government is considering hiring a third-party company to process claims for its new dental insurance program.

Public Services and Procurement Canada has invited companies with experience in dental insurance claims to apply for prequalification in a process that was launched on Friday.

Department officials told The Canadian Press that the process will help the Department of Health fine-tune the program before hiring a company to undertake the work.

The information was provided by Health Ministry officials on the condition that they are not publicly named.

The dental plan is a condition of the confidence deal the Liberals struck with the New Democratic Party (NDP) in March to prevent an election from being held before 2025.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said he wants to see this program in place by the end of 2023.
