Ottawa Caucus | Poilievre’s Conservatives Gather to Prepare for Back-to-School

(Ottawa) Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre will meet with his caucus on Parliament Hill on Sunday as he prepares to make another push to topple the minority Liberal government as early as next week.

The daylong caucus meeting before returning to Parliament on Monday will begin with a speech by Poilievre, who has maintained his party’s commanding lead in polls throughout the summer.

The Conservative Party of Canada is the last major party to hold a session to prepare for the fall parliamentary session after the Liberals, NDP and Bloc Québécois all met during the week.

All parties have been adjusting their strategies since New Democratic Party (NDP) Leader Jagmeet Singh ended the deal that ensured Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s minority Liberal government would remain in power until June 2025.

Mr Poilievre has promised to table a motion of censure at the first opportunity, and that could happen as early as Monday.

The Conservatives would likely need the support of the NDP and the Bloc Québécois (BQ) to pass the motion, which seems unlikely.

The Conservatives’ fall platform includes a strong focus on the economy and a continued effort to end the price on carbon.

Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner also plans to introduce legislation to combat online harassment and child sexual exploitation.
